MUSICAL AND DRAMATIC FESTIVAL
Arrangements are in tram for the holding of a centennial musical and dramatic festival in connection with the Dunedin centennial celebrations. The proposed festival will extend over a period of a week, and will be held during June, 1940. The soloists engaged by the National Committee, and who will assist in the Dunedin functions, are Isobel Baillie (soprano), who is regarded as one of the leading sopranos in England, Gladys Ripley (contralto)), who is also well-known in the United Kingdom; Heddle Nash (tenor), who is recognised as best tenor in the United Kingdom; and Oscar Natschcke (bass), of New Zealand, who is at present in the United Kingdom, and who gained a prominent place in music in Great Britain. Dr Galway, while on his recent visit to the United Kingdom, heard all except Oscar Natschcke, and is enthusiastic regarding the talent which Dunedin citizens will be privileged to hear.
