THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE RECORD BY BRUEN DUBLIN, July 19. Th* qualifying rounds of the Irish Open Golf Championship were played on the Royal County Jown course the best scores being as folIrws:—

Bruen, who is 19 years if ge is the Irish open imateur and Irish nativ- amateur champion He has won the latter title for the orst two Sears. IP J Mahon won the Irish ative Professional Championship ir 1937 and again last year Lees won th Yorkshire Open and Professional Championship in 1935 was runne r up in the Czechoslovakian Open Championship m ;,, 35 and 1937 and as also runner-ur in the Grt-ma’ Open Championship in 1938 Locke is the present holder o the title having ncceeded last year with a total of 292 for the four rounds Whitcombf won the title ir 1938 with a total of 281 the lowest on record The amateur record for the Royal Countv Down course was 70 held by J K. Carr a*, the professional record of 67 stands to the credit of A. Compston and B Gadd
