ART UNION WINNER
APPEARANCE IN COURT SERIOUS MOTORING OFFENCE ALLEGED (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. July 20. One of the holders of tjie winning ticket in the last art union. Edward Vernon Reynolds, appeared in court this morning charged with being intoxicated in charge of a car. Reynolds was remanded to July 28. “This man is one of the Two Drunks’ who won the last art union and they have p l enty of money." said Sub-inspector Packer in asking that bail should be substantial The magistrate. Mr E, C. Lewey, S.M., said he would fix bail at £2(31), with a surety of £2OO. There would also be a hit-and-run charge, said the sub-inspector, in asking for a remand. Reynolds was In a drunken state and while driving past the hospital struck a man and went on. Another motorist started up his car and gave chase, finally getting the number of the vehicle.
