NEW POLITICAL PARTY
A HAWKE’S BAY ORGANISATION
POLICY AND OBJECTIVES
VIEWS OF SMALL FARMERS
(Per United Press Association)
HASTINGS, July 20,
A new political party, with the stated objective of giving expression to the views of the small farmers and other sections of the community, is being formed in Hawke’s Bay. The chief organiser. Mr E. H. Dailey, interviewed to-day, stated that he was convinced there was a need for another political organisation to voice the collective opinions of the people in the right quarter. “ This party will have no connection with the Labour Party," said Mr Dailey. “It will have its own policy and objectives, with no dictatorial methods in which two or three men will be in control. Members claim that the organisation will not embarrass the Government in any way—that is not our intention. We wish to keep in touch with the needs of the people as they arise. Provided that the Labour Government functions satisfactorily, we will have no fault to find.” It was stated that the organisation will not out candidates into the field at the next election unless the Labour members fail to carry out the objectives they had in mind. It was, however, intended to contest the local body elections.
It v/as emphasised that the new organisation had nothing in common with Communists. Adherents of other political bodies are denied membership in the new party. It is not known yet what the name of the new organisation will be. but suggestions are: the Independent Labour Party, the Industrial Labour Party, or Socialist Party. The movement aopears to be confined to Hawke’s Bay, but the suggestion is that other centres will be approached in the near future.
