HAYWARD POINT LIGHT

DAMAGED BY RIFLE FIRE HARBOUR BOARD’S CONCERN Damage to the Hayward Point light by a shot from a rifle was reported to last night’s meeting of the Otago Harbour Board by the Hari hour Master (Captain J. McLean); who stated that although the lamp itself was not affected, a pane of glass on the seaward side would require to be renewed, The serjous nature of the offence was stressed by Captain McLean in his report to the board. He stated that the Harbour Act provided a penalty of £2OO for such an offence, or in default a term of Imprisonment. not exceeding 12 months. : “ I thought we were more or less free from this sort of thing,” said the chairman (Mr W. Begg). “It is deplorable that such offences should be committed.” Mr D. F. H.
