OLD COLLEGIANS’ ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS The annual meeting of the John McGJashan Old Collegians’ Association was held in the Astor Cafe on Tuesday night. The president (Mr R. D. B. Paterson) was in the chair, and there were present Mr James Begg (patron of the association), Mr R. G. C. McNab (headmaster of the college), and about 40 members of the association Annual Report The annual report indicated that the association had had a successful year. The year had been a full one for the association, mainly because of the fact that it was the twenty-first year of the existence of the college Apart from the anniversary celebrations, however, the association had held a large number of functions. At the end of 1938 an informal dinner had been held for the purpose of saying farewell to Mr J, A. Dunning, one of the masters of the college, who was leaving to take up a position in Australia. . Early in 1939 the celebrations in connection with the twenty-first anniversary of the college, consisting of a camp-fire, dinner, sports day, ball, social evening, picnic, and church service had been held, proving very successful in themselves and resulting in increased interest being taken by members in the affairs of the association. The membership of the association had increased, and the finances were in a very healthy state, the statement of receipts and payments showing a surplus for the year of a little over £4O. During the anniversary celebrations an anniversary fund had been established, and a large amount paid into it. The renort and statement of receipts and payments were adpoted. Office-bearers The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: —President, Mr A. W. Gray; vice-presidents—Messrs J. Solomon, N McAlister, and R. T. C. Armstrong: secretary, Mr D L. Wood: treasurer, Mr J. P. Cook; assistant secretary and social member. Mr E E F Smith; sports, Mr L. C. Baker; magazine and register, Mr H. L. Gibson; first-year member, Mr John Paterson; auditor, Mr P. J. Mac Lean. A motion of appreciation ql the services rendered to the association bv the retiring president (Mr R. D. B. Paterson) and of congratulation on his promotion in his business was moved by Mr A. W. Gray and carried with acclamation. General It was decided that the sum of £2O should be transferred from the general account to the Reserve Fund. It was mentioned by the president that two members of the association were now members of the Board of Governors of the college, viz., Messrs C. G. Gray and A R. Harris, and a motion was passed congratulating the old boys on their appointment to the board. , , . . At the conclusion of the formal business supper was served. The toast to the King was honoured, after which Mr H. L. Gibson proposed the toast of “The College.” the headmaster (Mr R. G. C McNab) replying. The toast “The Old Collegians’ Association, was nroDOsed by Mr James Begg. and Mr R. D. B. Paterson replied Items were rendered by Messrs Ross. Walker and Begg. and members then had an opportunity of meeting old friends.
