ATHLETICS, CYCLISTS AND AXEMEN ANNUAL MEETING The thirty-third annual meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Cycling and Axemen’s Union was held in the R.S.A. rooms on Monday night. The president (Mr A. M. Wylie) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. The annual report stated, inter aha: Cash athletics still retain their popularity with the public and competitors. The number of affiliated clubs and societies remains the same as last year, and (one day) permits show an increase. five of these permits having been issued during the year. These meetings were all successful, and with increased prize money next season full affiliations can be expected. Competitors’ registrations again showed an increase, ‘this year’s total being 235. Bushcraft events conducted in South Otago are very popular as are running, cycling, and field events throughout Otago. Messrs G. McQueen and W. R MacPherson travelled to Blenheim to attend the Dominion conference, at which a great deal of business had been discussed, the principal being the revision of the union’s rule book, which has been reprinted. The credit balance can be regarded as satisfactory All meetings of the centre’s executive held during the vear were well attended and matters affecting the centre’s interests were duly dealt with. Election of Officers

The following officers were elected:— Patrons. Messrs B. S. Irwin and J. Lang (Dunedin): president. Mr H. H. Gordon (Dunedin); senior vice-president, Mr R. J. Elliott (Georgetown): junior vice-president, Mr J. T. Hogg (Owaka); executive —Messrs G. Bruce sen., G. Bruce, jun. (Totara), W. J. Stringer (Oamaru), James Newlands (Maheno). R. B. Meek (Oamaru). John Newlands (Incholme) G. McQueen (Dunedin). J D. McLeod (Enfield). S. Slater (Dunedin), A. M. Wylie and G. Sinclair (Port Molyneux): secretary. Mr W. P. MacPherson; auditor, Mr Neil McNamara: honorary solicitor. Mr Lang. Mr Wylie, the retiring president, installed Mr Gordon as his successor and expressed the wish that the same assistance and support given him during his term of office would be extended to his successor. _ _ , Messrs Gordon, McQueen. After a general discussion on union matters, the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair and to the press.
