TRANSPORT BOARD

AUCKLAND CITY ELECTION INTERESTING POSITION REVEALED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 17. The provisional results of the election of members of the Auckland Transport Board held on May 3 are not materially altered by the official count, which was completed to-day. Control of the board is equally divided between representatives of the Auckland Citizens and Ratepayers’ Association and the Labour Party, five candidates from each organisation being successful at the polls. ' The situation of the new board as revealed by the official count presents interesting probabilities. It is considered likely that each section will nominate a candidate for the chairmanship, a position that will be of paramount importance, as the chairman will possess the deliberative vote as well as the casting vote. The Act provided that, if there should be an equality of votes in the election of chairman, the position is to be determined by lot in such manner as the board may direct. On the provisional count, the last of the successful city candidates. Captain R. S. Judson, V.C. (Citizens), was only 12 votes ahead of the first of the unsuccessful candidates. Mr C. Bailey (Labour). Captain Judson, however, gained in the official count and increased his margin over Mr Bailey to 65 votes. There were no other materia] changes.
