Norma Shearer, who is five feet three inches tall and who weighs 1101 b, wears 34 Adrian-designed costumes in “ Marie Antoinette.” The costumes aggregate 17681 b in weight, which is approximately 17 times Miss Shearer s own weight The heaviest of the court dresses weighs 1081 b, and the lightest 371 b. , , .. "At first,” the star declared, “the gowns were tiring and awkward. But it is 'surprising how quickly one can become accustomed to inconveniences in dress.” Not only were Miss Shearers costumes worn over a steel frame, but her 18 wigs, some of them several feet tall, were weighted with metal.
