CITY COUNCIL AFFAIRS
TO THE EDITOR Sir—As a supporter of Councillor Shepherd I want to congratulate him for not letting any organisation tell him what he ought to do, I think councillors should be there for the good ot the city and not be made to keep quiet and do as they are told. It is evident that our City Council is not a happy body. I have two properties, and since the present council took office my rates have been advanced by £2. Then we get a reduction of one penny. What “ eyewash,” when the penny only makes the paltry sum of two or three shillings to most ratepayers. If we have more councillors following Councillor Shepherd the Mayor will have to raise a loan to pay for all the byelections! I hope every councillor will speak out and not simply do as he is told—l am, etc.. Ratepayer, Dunedin, -May 17.
