HORSE FALLS IN WELL

RESCUE AFTER LONG ORDEAL

Falling through the decking above a well, where it had apparently gone to drink, a horse was rescued at Black Pool Bay, Waiheke, after being partly immersed in the water for over three days. The well where the mishap occurred is about a chain from the road and is hidden by tall rushes. When found, the animal had. its head resting on the parapet, with the remainder of its body lying on the broken decking of the well, which is about six feet T?e animal was not missed by its owner, a resident of Surfdale, for some time, and was found by a passer-by, who heard it neighing. It was ’necessary to dig a ramp into the well' before the horse could be rescued. When it finally got out it was too weak to stand, but it is believed that it will recover.
