NO TIME TOR WORDS
A dramatic call for national unity was made by the French Premier (M. Daladier) during the debate on the Bill giving him full powers. Replying to an amendment by the Socialists, he declared: “You want words and nothing but words. This is not the time for amendments and counter-proposals. There is something else to do. Let all Frenchmen who want to follow me on the tortuous road follow me. Let the others stay outside, I will pursue my way. The voting of the full P9wers is the only means of saving the situation, and I ask you to reply quickly by ' Yes or ‘ No.’ I will accept no amendments, no counter-proposals. I stake the life of the Government on the draft Ball as it is. I will change nothing, not a word, not a comma. The situation doe# not permit it.”
