CIRCULAR SAW BREAKS
PIECES FLY 300 YARDS NARROW ESCAPE FOR MAN Flying through the air like a shot from a gun, one piece of the broken blade of a circular saw passed over the Taihape High School building and became embedded in a pine tree near the entrance to the recreation ground, while the remaining part landed on the front lawn of a residence in Carver street Mr O. McSweeney was using the saw to cut firewood in the backyard of his residence when it broke into two pieces. The fact that both parts were found over 300 yards from the scene gives some idea of the speed with which the saw left the bench. The larger part struck the tree 10 inches from the ground and stuck fast in a horizontal position. A man entering the *ate of the recreation ground when the piece of saw hit the trunk of the tree had a narrow escape. Several other people were in the vicinity at the time. Part of the broken bench landed in a backyard next to Mr McSweeney's house.
