"THE WOMEN"

DUNEDIN SEASON Clare Boothe's much-discussed satire on the feminine world. "The Women," wil be presented by J. C. Williamson Theatre, Ltd., at His Majesty's Theatre for a season commencing on Friday at 8 p.m. "The Women" is a brisk play Its dialogue is crisp and scintillatin ' written sometimes with a touch of bitterness, sometimes with satire or irony but always in a humorous vein. Heading the brilliant cast of 40 women is Irene Purcell. the distinguished American actress. In " The Women " Miss Purcell portrays the one sympathetic role in the whole play, that of Mary Haines, who is driven into the Divorce Court through the malicious gossip of her circle of " friends," who have too much money and too little common sense. Her domestic life is saved eventually only by a woman's wit and wisdom. Miss Purcell will be remembered for her screen performances in such films as " The Man in Possession " and "Accent on Youth." Another screen actress who appears in " The Women " is Mary Dees, remembered as the double of the late Jean Harlow. She appears as " Crystal," the glamorous blonde who is the "other woman" in Mary Haines's married life. Box plans are now at the D.I.C.
