DOCTORS AND THE STATE UNYIELDING OPPOSITION STRENGTHENED BY MR FRASER’S "HARANGUE" (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Apl. 30. “Everything is goinn along very nicely. So far as we are concerned we could use the Prime Minister’s own words and say there is nothing to fear,” said Dr J. Roberts Boyd, president of the Wellington Division of the B.M.A. “ Mr Fraser’s harangue on Saturday. which is so utterly unfair and misleading, has greatly strengthened our position and our opposition too,” Dr Boyd said. It is a case of the old, old story—‘ Come into my parlour, said the spider to the fly.’ But we know our spider.” THE MATERNITY PROPOSALS REJECTED BY MEDICAL MEN (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Apl. 30. Though no meeting of the Wellington division of the British Medical Association was called to consider acceptance of the official maternity benefit contracts, It was learned to-night that Wellington doctors are solidly behind the rest of the profession in New Zealand in their opposition to the proposals in their present form. A Wellington member of the division said to-night that the division had obtained the opinions of individual practitioners, and for several reasons, general and specific, they were not prepared to accept service under the Social Security Act. The division was strongly opposed to acceptance of the contract while the position remained as at present. It is reported from New Plymouth that the Taranaki division of the British Medical Association has unanimously rejected the Government’s contract. Making an official statement of the division’s attitude, the secretary (Dr S. W. Crawford i said he had no comment to make.
