OFFICIAL FORECAST MAINLY FAIR TO FINE The following is the official weather forecast:— A depression is now centred northeast of East Cape, and is moving away eastward, while an anti-cyclone still covers the Eastern Tasman Sea and the South Island, Pressure has risen over Tasmania. Indications are for:— Winds.—South-easterlies prevailing from Nelson and Marlborough northwards. still of gale force over parts of the North Island, but gradually decreasing and elsewhere moderate variables over the South Island, with east to north predominating. Seas.—New Zealand waters; Rough to high in and north of Cook Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Variable winds, with light to moderate east to north predominating; seas slight to moderate. Weather.—Further rain In eastern and northern districts of the North Island, but mainly light and scattered except between Hawke’s Bay and East Cape, and conditions gradually improving from the west; fair to fine over the South Island; temperatures cool, with some light frosts, but becoming milder. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN The weather during the week-end was fine with mild temperatures during the days and clear nights. On Saturday there was bright sunshine with a light north-easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 62 degrees and the barometer fluctuated between 30.32 and 30.44 inches. Similar conditions with slightly cooler temperatures prevailed yesterday, the maximum being 56 degrees. The barometer was steady at 30.39 inches, but rose last night to 30.55 inches. Heavy rain fell throughout yesterday. the fall for the 24 hours being 1.60 inches. The barometer fell to 29.75 inches in the afternoon, but then rose steadily, registering 30,05 inches a*- 6 p.m. to-day. The weather to-day was fine with a moderate to fresh southerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees. WELLINGTON, Apl. 30. The weather yesterday was cloudy to overcast, with occasional very light showers. This morning the sky was overcast, but in the afternoon the clouds broke and the sun shone most of the time. A fresh south-east wind blew throughout and the air was cool, the maximum temperature being 54.8 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 1026.2 millibars. CHRISTCHURCH, Apl. 30.
