“ Tlic Anzac Day memorial service in Melbourne was marked by a parade of about 10.000 men.” said the president of the Caledonian Society of Invercargill, Mr John MacGregor, at the annual meeting of the society recently, Mr MacGregor listened to the wireless broadcast of the Melbourne service, and said that what impressed him most was the fact that six pipe bands were included in the procession. The thrilling skirl of the pipes came clearly over the air. The Melbourne announcer said that the pipes had a wonderful effect, said Mr MacGregor. Much humour was caused by Mr MacGregor's story, as certain members present were not so enthusiastic about the “ skirl of the pipes ” as were he and most of the others present.
