GRATITUDE TO PILOT

A gratitude cheque for £2O has been received by Captain J. E. D. Scott, pilot of the British Airways aeroplane which landed on one wheel at Croydon recently. The money, subscribed by the seven passengers in the aeroplane. will be given to charity, at Captain Scott’s suggestion. Mr H. Hirst, of Lloyds avenue, who organised the collection, said: “We all believe that we owe our lives and our escape from injury to Captain Scott’s coolness and steadiness.” The aeroplane circled the airport for nearly two hours after the undercarriage jammed, then “ pancaked” at 90 m.p.h., taxied on its one wheel, and stopped with one wingtip touching the ground.
