DUNEDIN SHAKESPEARE CLUB

On Wednesday next in the Concert Chamber, the Dunedin Shakespeare Club will present readings from Richard 11. This play should prove of more than usual interest to patrons in that it is new to the club’s repertoire—the only occasion on which it has been presented previously being 35 year ago when some excerpts were given in the Choral Hall. Richard II belongs to a series of splendid plays which supply a picturesque narrative of English history in the time of the Lancastrian and Yorkist dynasties. Richard II holds the interest chiefly because of the demands it makes upon declaration and characterisation. In this the cast chosen promise to excel. The public are thus assured of an interesting and stimulating performance, and those who love the best in English poetry will have a veritable feast. The assisting artist for the reading is Miss Jean McLay, who will sing “The Willow,” from Othello. Further particulars are advertised.
