CABLE CARS OR BUSES?

TO THE EDITOR

Sir,—What makes the buses so unpopular? This is an incident that occurred to-day. The loading of the 11.30 a.m. bus from Rattray street was protracted—with the slow business of pepple climbing one by one through a narrow doorway, receiving change, etc. Eventually, when this bus arrived at a point just past the quarry, the connecting bus from the junction was passing the top of the road. The town driver was so late that he evidently wished to avoid another stop, and he waved his confrere violently to go on. Fortunately, the junction bus driver was more considerate of the public: he refused to go on, and the up driver had little option but to stop and transfer his Maori Hill passengers. This saved a wait at the junction of a good half-hour for some 10 passengers. —I am, etc., Wm. Stevenson. February 9.
