OBITUARY

MR J. W. B. MACDONALD The death took place at Wairoa on Sunday of Mr J. W. B. Macdonald, son of Dr William Macdonald, a former rector of the Otago Boys’ High School. Mr Macdonald was born in Edinburgh, where his father 'was. at that time, classics master at the high school While he was still an, infant, he came to New Zealand with his parents, and he was educated at the Otago Boys’ High School and at the Palmerston High School. He entered the firm of Messrs Murray Roberts and Co., but a a few years later he left for the North Island, where he had resided ever since. For the past 33 years he had lived In Wairoa. He was employed with the Hawke's Bay Farmers’ Cooperative Association and with Mr E. L. Thomson was co-manager. Mr Macdonald took an active interest in district affairs, and was a member ox the Wairoa Borough Council, the Power Board, and the District High School Committee. He was actively interested in hockey and Rugby football affsirs. and for 15 years was treasurer of the Wairoa A. and P. Society. He was a Justice of the Peace and a prominent Mason. He is survived by his widow and two sons, Messrs Hector Macdonald (Wait roa) and Keith Macdonald (Mohaka).
