ANOTHER EASY WIN
M.C.C. v. EASTERN PROVINCE AN INNINGS AND 235 RUNS PORT ELIZABETH, Jan. 9. Marylebone in the first innings against Eastern Province scored 518 for six wickets, declared (Hutton 202, Paynter 99, Hammond 52, Edrich 31, Bartlett not out 33). Eastern Province in the second innings scored 111 (Fames two for 14, Perks three for 29. Wright four for 39) Marylebone won by an innings and 235 runs. Hutton and Paynter trounced the weak bowling. Hutton, who batted 167 minutes, hit two sixes and 23 fours. Bartlett hit the fast bowler Ferreira for five successive fours. MRS HAMMOND’S PLANS STAYING IN CAPETOWN LONDON, Jan. 10. Dorothy, the wife of W. R. Hammond. captain of the Marylebone team, though tired of being “ a test widow,” will not join her husband after reaching South Africa, whither she sails on January 13. but wiU stay with friends at Capetown, because the couple will adhere to the agreement made when they married in 1930, that married life and big cricket don’t mix. She confesses that it will be nice to meet “ Wally ” at the termination of the tour.
