ST. CLAIR BATHS

CONDITION OF POOL RENOVATIONS COMMENCED Advice that the centre's representations regarding the condition of St. Clair Baths, had been considered, was received in a letter from the General Committee of the City Council which came before a meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre last night. The letter stated that a survey of the premises had been made by the city engineer and the city building surveyor. who had submitted reports as to the repairs and renovations necessary. Instructions had been given to the city engineer to carry out essential works—clearing of sand and gravel from the pool, chipping shells from the rocks, fitting a new vafve. and a new springboard, and repaving the yard, in addition to other necessary works on the steam plant. The building surveyor had also been instructed to carry out urgent repairs to the baths buildings. The committee regretted, however, that it wds not possible io carry out the whole of the work recommended owing to the fact that no financial provision had been made for this expenditure during the current year. The matter had been noted for consideration when the estimates for next financial vear were being prepared.

The letter was received and it was decided io send to Mr B. Simonsen a letter conveying the centre’s appreciation of the personal interest he had taken in having the work pul in hand
