CAR CAPSIZES MAN FATALLY INJURED (Per United Press Association) WHANGAREI, Jan. 10. Swerving to avoid a dog, a car skidded on the Ruarangi-Paparoa road yesterday, causing . the death of T. J. Le Valllant, a Taipuha farmer. The car, driven by his son Ivan, became out of control, ran along a bank for 10 yards, and capsized back on to the road, pinning the father beneath the vehicle. On lifting the heavy car his sons found that Le Vaillant had received terrible head injuries, from which he died immediately. A niece. Merle Campbell, aged five, was also a passenger. She was admitted to hospital with severe abrasions to the head and arm. MAN FOUND DEAD DISCHARGED GUN BESIDE BODY (Per United Press association) WHANGAREI, Jan. 10. A well-known resident of the far north, James L. Tynan, was found yesterday outside his tent at Houhora with a gunshot wound in the throat and a discharged shotgun beside him, Tynan spent Sunday with friends, retiring to his tent after tea. The body was discovered when.a boy went to call him for a meal. The deceased served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. SUDDEN HEART, SEIZURE DEATH OF A CYCLIST (Per United Press Association) HASTINGS, Jan. 10. Apparently suffering from a heart seizure while cycling to work this morning, George William Hawkins, a carpenter, aged 58 fell from his bicycle in Karamu road and died about five minutes later. FALL FROM MILK CART MAN FATALLY INJURED (Per United Press Association) MASTERTON, Jan. 10. Injuries which later proved to be fatal were received by John Kempton, single, when one of the wheels of his milk cart passed over him at Greytown yesterday afternoon. It is believed that the deceased slipped when stepping on to the cart and fell. STRUCK BY ENGINE SIGNWRITER DIES FROM INJURIES (Per United Press Association) MARTON, Jan, 10. Struck by an engine on the overhead railway bridge at the Wellington road crossing, Marton, at 4.50 p.m. yesterday, Kenneth O’Neill, a married man, aged 45, of Feilding, a signwriter received injuries which proved fatal two hours later. He was engaged on a signwriting contract on the bridge for a local firm, and failed till too late to notice the approach of a single engine. no train being due. A high wind was blowing at the time. The unfortunate man ran for safety, but tripped on a sleeper, and the cowcatcher carried him the length of the bridge, hurling him down the embankment. He suffered fractured ribs and concussion. He was conveyed to a local private hospital. He leaves a widow and four children. LEVEL CROSSING SMASH DRIVER OF CAR INJURED A south-bound goods train collided with a motor car, driven by William Richards, of Tapanui. at the Mosgiel railway crossing at 11.40 yesterday morning, the driver of the car suffering internal injuries which necessitated his removal to the Dunedin Hospital. A woman passenger in the car was unhurt. Richards was driving Into Mosgiel at a slow pace, and, a stranger to the locality, he apparently did not see the engine in time to avoid the collision. Fortunately the train was also travelling slowly, and the impact did no more than swing the vehicle round. The car was badly damaged, however, all the windows being smashed, one of the back wheels crushed, and the right-hand side stove in. SEQUEL TO COLLISION FATHER AND SON INJURED As the result of a collision between two motor cars near Outram on Monday night. Andrew Hendry was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital early yesterday morning suffering from fractured ribs. His 11-year-old son. George Hendry, was admitted the previous evening with head injuries, and his name was placed on the seriously ill list, but last night he was making satisfactory progress.
