RIFLE SHOOTING
DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB The Dunedin Defence Rifle Club fired the first competition for Captain G. C. Proudfoot’s prizes on Saturday afternoon. There was an attendance of 16, and seven shots'and two optional sighters were fired at 300. 500 and 600 yards. The weather was patchy, frequent rain showers accompanied by poor light causing very difficult conditions at times. The highest score at 300 yards was 33 by A. J. S, Cowie, R. Leslie, sen. and C. J. Gamble, at 500 yards a 34 by A. J. S. Cowie, and at 600 yards a 34 by C. J. Gamble C. J. Gamble headed the day's aggregate with 100. Following are the highest scores:— 300 500 600
WEST TAIERI DEFENCE CLUB
The West Taieri Defence Rifle Clim fired its fourth shoot for the championship cup on Saturday. There were 12 members present, the ranges being 300 and 500 yards. The shooting during the afternoon was somewhat marred by very bad visibility, though there was practically no wind to contend with. Four members were unable to complete their shoot at 300 yards owing to the heavv rain. At 300 yards G. Wyllie with 48 topped the score followed by R. McDonald with 47 At the longer range, R. McDonald with a possible, headed the list, closely followed by G. Wyllie, A. Thomson and J. Dickie with 49 each. G. Wyllie, with 97 off-the-rifle, won the silver button, and R. McDonald, also with 97 held the handicap badge. The following are the scores, with handicaps:— 300 600
KAITANGATA DEFENCE CLUB The Kaitangata Defence Rifle Club fired a match on Saturday for prizes presented by Mr J. Owens, of Paihia, Bay of Islands, who was for many years postmaster at Kaitangata. Conditions of the match were seven counting shots and two optional sighters each at-300, 500 and 600yds. The following were the scores:—
