GUN BATTLE WITH POLICE (United Press Association' (By Electric Telegraph-Copyrightl NEW YORK, Jan. 7. (Received Jan. 8, at 10 p.m.) The police and Federal authorities seized 100,000 dollars’ worth of opium after a gun battle and the capture of a gang of three alleged accomplices. Two detectives posed as underworld characters for several months, gaining the confidence of the gang and even using a police launch to make opium deliveries. Several members of the crew of an Italian steamer are implicated.
