EASTERN PROVINCE MATCH A CENTURY TO HUTTON (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) PORT ELIZABETH, Jan. 7. (Received Jan. 8, at 10 p.m.) For the match between Marylebone and Eastern Province the wicket was lively. Eastern Province in the first innings scored 172 (Southey 46, Dimbleby 33; Fames five for 58, Wright four for 54).
Marylebone in the first innings have lost one wicket for 237 (Gibb 51, Hutton not out 152, Paynter not out 57). Dimbleby, a promising schoolboy, was impressive. SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH A CENTURY TO TALLON BRISBANE, Jan. 8. (Received Jan. 8, at 9 p.m.) In the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia, Queensland in the first innings lost seven wickets for 325 (D. Tallon 115, Stibe 58 Baker 80). Three of Queensland’s best batsmen, including Brown, were out for 28, when the wicketkeeper, Tallon, came to the rescue and stopped the rot. MIDDLESEX CAPTAIN I. A. R. PEEBLES SELECTED LONDON, Jan 7. (Received Jan. 8, at 8 p.m.) I. A. R. Peebles will captain Middlesex in 1939, instead of R. W. Robins, who will only play occasionally.
