OFFICIAL FORECAST MAINLY FAIR TO FINE The following is the official weather forecast: — While the anti-cyclone lying over the Tasman Sea and the North Island has remained almost stationary, depressions continue to pass in the south. The last of one series is now beyond the Chatham Islands, but a new and vigorous one has already advanced on to Tasmania. Indications are for:— Winds. —Light to moderate, southerly to westerly predominating at first, but gradually veering towards the north from Cook Strait southward and becoming strong later in exposed positions. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Slight to moderate; later rising on the west coast south of Taranaki and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate winds between north-west and south-west, with slight to moderate seas, wind and sea later increasing in the southern portion. Weather. —Fair to fine at first, but cloud increasing later in western districts, and rain probably developing within 24 hours in Westland and the far south; temperatures rising.
