ANNUAL SOCIAL The annual social and presentation of trophies of the Otago Peninsula Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at Portobello on Saturday night. In spite of the inclement weather there was a record attendance at the function, about 250 persons being present. The evening was spent in dancing interspersed with items. Before the presentation of trophies, the president (Mr D. Smith) thanked the judges, stewards, and all who assisted towards making the show a success. Encouraged by the success of Saturday night’s function, the committee is endeavouring to arrange similar functions to be held during the year. The following is the trophy list:— Mr D. Brown’s special prizes for yearling draughts—M. Geary 1, J. Weir 2. Conn Cup, list hack —W. Hastie. Lanham Cup. most points in hacks — W. Hastie. Clydesdale Horse Society’s medal — M. Geary. Cadbury Fry Hudson’s medals for calf rearing—D. Hellyer 1, R. Edwards 2, R. Small! 3. Peter Ruck Memorial Challenge Cup, for local jump—F. Watson; Mr A. C. Miles’s consolation prize for most entries and least points in cattle —C. Henderson. President’s trophy, for most points in home industries—Mrs J. C. Wilson. Mrs Henderson’s trophy, home industries (amateurs)—Miss E. Harwood. Mrs F. Ruck’s tea set. for best dark fruit cake—Mrs D. McKay. Mrs J. Hellyer’s cup for jams and preserves—Mrs E. McDonald.
