BOWLING

! CHRISTMAS PAIRS UNFAVOURABLE CONDITIONS FIRST DAY'S RESULTS Dunedin bowlers did not have enjoyable conditions for the first day yesterday of the Christmas Pairs tournament. The first round was played in rain showers, but overhead conditions were fair for the remainder of the day. The greens were very heavy, however, and top-class bowlers had reason to bemoan the fact that there was no suggestion of keenness about the surfaces. The results were as follows: NORTH-EAST VALLEY GREEN Section A First Round Morrison (Kaikorai) 19, Armstrong (Leith) 12. • Coombs (St. Clair) 22.
