"A PAPER TIGER"
CHINESE ESTIMATE,, OF JAPAN CONFIDENT OF VICTORY (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 24. The Chinese Consulate-general has received the following cablegram from Chung-king:— " General Chen Cheng, in a statement, said that, in the past, China had been able to carry on satisfactorily her war of resistance in conjunction with her programme of reconstruction in the rear. In regard to the three questions of supplementing the weapons of war, provisions, and troops, our Government is fully confident of solving them. The international situation has also been somewhat improved. "Viewing the whole position, the second stage of intense warfare is greatly to our advantage. Thereafter, the enemy may endeavour to advance both in the south-west and north-west simultaneously, but we are fully prepared for such an eventuality. Japan has now been revealed as nothing more than a paper tiger, and the past has proved that China will attain the ; final victory."
