A THAW IN LONDON

THE SNOW DISAPPEARING MANY AREAS ISOLATED (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Dec. 22. London experienced a thaw this afternoon after the severe cold of the last few days. The snow disappeared from the streets, but further north snow is still falling to-day, and many villages on the Lincolnshire wolds and Yorkshire are completely isolated. Many roads are impassable and transport in South-east Essex experienced difficulty as a result of a very dense fog. Visibility in the Thames Estuary was so reduced as seriously to embarrass shipping. Three Imperial Airways Empire flying boats with nine tons of Christmas mail are weatherbound at Southampton. Nine deaths, attributed to the cold, occurred in Britain to-day.
