OBITUARY

MR A. TAYLOR There passed away recently a wellknown and highly-respected member of a pioneer family of the Otago Peninsula in the person of Mr Alexander Taylor. Mr Taylor was born at Sandymount about 60 years ago. and was educated at the school there. After leaving school he, along with two brothers, farmed at Otakou for many years. From there he removed to Hunter Valley station, Lake Hawea. which the brothers acquired. They developed this property and made it a desirable and valuable tourist resort. Mr Taylor retired from active business in 1928. and until a year ago lived at his old home in Sandymount. He then, with his brother. Mr Harry Taylor, purchased a small farm at Awamoa, North Otago, but unfortunately was not spared to enjoy long residence there. Mr Tayldr had a fine, open nature, and. being of a most friendly disposition, will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know him.

MR T. C. HARRISON At a meeting of the trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank yesterday, the following minute was passed:— " The trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank hereby record their very deep regret at the death of their colleague, Mr Thomas Cornforth Harrison. Mr Harrison was appointed a trustee in 1912, and was president of the bank for the year ended March 31, 1935, when, on relinquishing the presidential chair, he still remained a member of the board. For a period of 26 years he gave to the business of the bank his devoted support and unfailing attention, and at all times manifested a fathcrlv interest in all the bank's affairs. His particular interest lay in dealing with rural properties, and he was respected by all the farmer mortgagors with whom he came in contact. The bank has suffered a great loss. The high standard set up by our late colleague will ever live in our memories, and serve as a stimulus to us all to carry on the work so cherished by him. His fellow-trustees desire to convey to his widow and family their deepest sympathy in their sad loss."
