THE MANAWATU MEETING

(Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. Exceptionally good fields are carded for the opening of the Manawatu meeting to-morrow at Awapuni. Probably the best the club has ever had. Particularly keen contests are promised in the Cup and the Fitzherbert Handicap, and an additional factor that will make the racing better and keener will be the presence of most of the leading jockeys. There has been a lot of rain in the district during the past week or two, but. given fine weather on the day, the going should be in excellent order. Betting will be single pool and the only bracket on the card is a bracket of three in the Nursery Handicap—Varimond. Sleeveless and Sunola.
