OFFICIAL FORECAST MAINLY FAIR TO FINE The following is the official weather forecast: — The tropical depression mentioned on Thursday is now centred south of Tonga, and is moving south-eastward; an anti-cyclone is approaching across the North Tasman Sea, and a fresh depression has reached south-eastern Australia. Indications are for:— Winds.—Southerly, strong at first about Cook Strait, but soon moderating, and otherwise light to moderate; a change to northerlies advancing from the south to-day. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rather rough to rough at first about Cook Strait and north of Cape Egmont, but decreasing; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to fresh south-west to southerly winds, turning gradually to west and northwest; geas moderate to rather rough. Weather.—A few scattered light showers at first, mainly in eastern dhtricts, but weather generally fair to fine; temperatures cold, bat rising. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN Though dull and threatening early in the morning, with rain showers at intervals, the weather later yesterday was fine and warm, with bright sunshine. There was a slight breeze from the south. The barometer was steady at 29.80 inches at midnight, and the maximum temperature was 52 degrees. The day was mainly fine, with scattered showers in the morning, and early in the afternoon the sky was cloudy. The temperatures were cooler, the maximum being 66 degrees. The barometric pressure fell, the reading at 5 p.m. being 29.63 inches. WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. The weather to-day was cloudy to overcast and cold in the morning, with occasional splashes of rain, but improved slightly in the afternoon, when there was a fresh southerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 65.5 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the barometer registered 29.672 inches. CHRISTCHURCH. Dec. 23. The sky was overcast at intervals during the morning, with occasional heavy showers. The weather cleared after mid-day, with bright sunshine, although still overcast to the southwest. The wind was south-south-west all day. The maximum temperature was 56.8 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. registered 29.85 inches and was rising slowly.
