After the last election the composition of the House of Representatives was as follows: United Australia Party, 28; Independents. 2; United Country Party, 15; Labour Party, 29. The recent byelection for Wakefield increased the Labour Party’s strength by one. (2) The election in France may take place at any time by dissolution. The state of political parties in France is subject to continuous change. After the election of 1937 the composition of the Chamber of Deputies was as follows: Right (composed of 11 parties or groups), 115; Centre (Right, composed of six parties). 70; Centre (Left, eight parties), 36; Left (nine parties or groups), 396. There have been 41 changes of Government in France since the close of the Great War. Several politicians have led more than one Government.
