ARRESTED WITH DRUGS

TWO WOMEN IN COURT POLICE SEE PACKAGE EXCHANGED (From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, Nov. 21. A meeting between two women at an underground Tube station, at which a package containing 80 grains of heroin was handed from one to the other, was described at the Bow Street Police Court on November 18. Violet Nash, 28, dressmaker, of Castletown road. West Kensington, said, by a detective, to be suspected of being a drug trafficker, and Doris Michael. 30, of no fixed address, were found guilty of being in unauthorised possession of the drug and remanded for sentence.

The magistrate, Mr McKenna, ordered a medical report on Nash, who was said to be in bad health. Detective-sergeant Higgins said that Nash had met certain women in Mayfair on previous occasions. Michael, who was divorced, was not a drug addict. She was connected with a club in which drugs were found some time ago, but they were not traced to her. Mr E. M. Hoy, for Michael, said that her late husband persuaded her to get a supply of drugs for a certain rich woman. She yielded, agains. her will. She had been in a place where it was a familiar sight to see “ this sort of thing”, passing, and she came to think there was no harm in it. Mr J. S. Bass, prosecuting, said that detectives, who saw the women in the Tube station, noticed that they were obviously looking about to see if they were being watched. After a few moments No.sh took a small packet from her handbag and handed it to Michael, who concealed it under her clothing. Michael lef; the station, but presently returned and handed to Nash a packet which, it was suggested, was the same one she had just before received from her. The police officers were observed by the women, and Michael quickly took back the packet. In a taxicab on the way to Vine street, Michael disposed of the packet by attempting to put it under the seat. Nash’s handbag contained traces of morphine.
