NO GOLD KEY
For years it has been customary when foundation-stones are laid to present a silver trowel to the person performing the ceremony, and in the case of the opening of a new building the favourite memento of the occasion is a gold key. Indications have been seen in Wellington this year that in future more useful gifts will be made on such occasions. Another example occurred this week, when the Hon. P. Fraser opened the new headquarters of the British Medical Association, on Wellington terrace. With a shrewd suspicion—as Dr J. P. S. Jamieson, the president of the British Medical Association, put it—that Mr Fraser by now must have a good collection of gold keys, the architect. Mr B, F. Kelly, chose as his gift a parcel of books. These, said Dr Jamieson, Mr Kelly had asked him to present to Mr Fraser with his compliments
