PRISONER APOLOGISES
THREW TOMATOES AT JUDGES RELEASE FOLLOWS LONDON, Dec. 21. After writing an apology from gaol, Frank Harrison was released by the same judges he threw tomatoes at. A remission was granted on account of the approach of Christmas.
There was an astounding scene in the Court of Appeal on December 2 when Frank Harrison, after the rejection of his application for a new county court trial, returned to the court when the judges were departing at lunch time, and shouted: “I want justice!” At the same time he threw several tomatoes at Lord Justices Clauson and Goddard. The tomatoes missed the judges and burst against the woodwork. A spectator seized Harrison’s arm, preventing him throwing more tomatoes. The judges returned to the bench. Lord Justice Clauson said: “We dealt with the application to the best of our ability.” Harrison was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment for contempt of court. Harrison, yelling “There is no justice left in England!” was hustled out.
