BRITAIN'S IMPORTS SUGGESTED REGULATION (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 20. In the House of Commons, Mi W. S. Morrison announced that the New Zealand and Australian. Governments had been approached to regulate the increased imports of mutton and lamb to Britain from January 15. An early order was being issued whereby all imports of live sheep to Britain would be under licence. The Empire Meat Council's functions were being enlarged to enable consideration of supplies of mutton and lamb. The application of the proposed system to Eire was also being discussed. GREATER SECURITY PRIME MINISTER'S COMMENT (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 21. "No doubt the object of the British Government is to give greater security to the British farmers," said the Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage) when invited this evening to comment on the London cable message stating that New Zealand and Australia had been asked to regulate the increased imports of mutton and lamb into Great Britain as from the middle of January. "Anything in the nature of irregular supplies does not help anyone, whether the British or the New Zealand farmer; it is a question of better organisation. The better organisation we have, the better it will be for all concerned." MR NASH'S COMMENT BETTER SERVICE EXPECTED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 21. Commenting on the cabled statement regarding the regulation of increased imports of mutton and lamb into Britain as from January 15. the Minister "of Finance (Mr Walter Nash) said the procedure referred to had been the subject of communication between theUnited Kingdom and the New Zealand Government for some time. " I hope the extension of the functions of the Beef Council to cover mutton and lamb will lead to better and more regular supplies to the United Kingdom," Mr Nash added.
