SHOOTING SHIELD
SECONDARY SCHOOL CADETS
SOUTHLAND IN FIRST PLACE
The Victory Challenge Shield for cadet rifle-shooting has been won by the Southland Boys’ High School. Five teams from secondary schools in the South Island competed. The result of the competition is as follows:
Southland Boys’ High School. 211 A points 1 Christ’s College. 190)> points . .. 2 Marlborough High School. 182 A points it Otago Boys’ High School, 173 A points 4 King’s High School (Dunedin). 160 J points .. - 5
The vvjnning team consisted of Corporals J. Robertson, H. M. Longley, J. R. Cameron and D. E. Watts, and Cadets R. B. Ritchie, P. J. Ritchie, E. T. Jones, W M. Clouston. P Rowley and H. Rowley. The competition is for .303 rifle shooting for teams of 10. This year's cc*npetition was fired on the Invercargill range. In the first practice the Southland team scored 94J points out of a possible 100. and in the second practice it scored 117 points out of a possible 130, The shield will be presented to the winning team when the school resumes in February. The officer commanding the southern military district, Colonel P. H. Bell, of Christchurch, has sent congratulations to the team.
