MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meetin,, of the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday, Mr E C. Reynolds presiding. Also present were Messrs R. Fountain, W. Cooper, S. P. Leith, J. C. Willis, D. C. Cameron, W. Kirk, and J. JHinchcliff (Inspector). A letter was received from the North Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reiterating its claims for recognition. The letter mentioned the fact that the North Otago Society had been operating for 12 years, but had not been able to carry on successfully owing tc its “ overlapping " with the Otago Society’s work. The suggestion was made tha. the Otago Society should let the North Otago Society manage the district north of the Shag River, as far as the boundaries of the South Canterbury Society’s district. —After discussion, it was decided that the inspector should prepare a report on the matter, which could be held over until the next meeting. The Inspector (Mr J. J. Hinchcliff) reported on his work for the month. AIL districts under the society s jurisdiction had been visited, and shows and stock sales attended. Four complaints concerning cruelty to animals had been looked into, but none of them appeared to have had any foundation. As it was the final meeting for ,ne year, the chairman toe’ the opportunity of thanking the members for their services and of extending to them Christmas greetings.
