THE ROSLYN TRAMWAY SERVICE
ro THE EDITOR Sir, —Mr R. S. Black and Mr Sutherland Ross are highly respected and capable business men. their opinions carry some weight in the community. On reading the report of the protest meeting held last night, I did not notice that anyone had put forward the City Council viewpoint of the matter. A short time ago the executive of the Roslyn Ratepayers’ Association met the Tramways Committee and, after hearing the case put forward by the committee, agreed to the buses being given a trial for six months The Roslyn trams are losing at the rate of about £2OOO a year. If the service is to be kept going, the council in the near future is faced with an expenditure of £IO,OOO. I would like to gsk Mr Black and Mr Ross this question: If the Roslyn line was a private company and they happened to be directors, would they, as business men, feel justified in incurring an expenditure of £IO,OOO without trying out other means to overcome their difficulties?—l am, etc., Worker. Dunedin,. December 20.
