POWER SUPPLY

ELECTRICITY IN CENTRAL OTAGO FURTHER EXTENSIONS PROPOSED At yesterday’s meeting of the Otago Electric Power Board at Milton, the chairman (Mr A E. Russell) submitted a report of the recent meeting at Ranfurly of those interested in electric power for minin° and irrigation purposes in portions of Centra] Otago district. The board was represented by himself, Messrs Lowis and McGill (district members) and the secretary and engineer, and there were present seven representative citizens as interested parties.

A number of questions regarding power for irrigation were answered by the engineer, and it was decided to make an early canvass •'f the Patearoa area, the proposed route being in from Waipiata. and terminating at the corner. The Mayor of Naseby (Mr Keogh) said he was interested in a domestic supply for Naseby borough, also for mining purposes, and it was decided to call at Naseby and there interview Mr Hore, who was principally interested in mining. Mr J. C. Collins, consulting engineer, for the Macraeburn Mining Company, asked several questions on the reasons for his company being asked to find £SOOO for strengthening the line between Palmerston and Macraes; such a sum, he stated, was entirely beyond the resources of the company These questions were answered by the secretar and the engineer, and Mr Collins will communicate his company’s proposals and requirements.

Mr Russell stated that ~ conference was held at Naseby with Messrs Keogh and Hore. but no decision was arrived at. Mr Howell afterwards took the board’s officers and the speaker over the proposed route to Pategroa, and the prospects there appeared amply good enough to justify the suggested canvass of the district for guarantors. The MacraesHyde work was also inspected, and it was found that good progress has been made.

The chairman’s report was adopted, and it was decided that the canvass for guarantors should be commenced after the holidays.
