CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING DRAW FOR OPENING ROUNDS (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 20. Excellent entries have been received for the New Zealand lawn tennis championships, which will be played in. Christchurch. The draw was made tonight. The main absentee from the men is D. G. France (Wellington). Added interest will be given to the events in which women take part by the entry of two Australians, Misses Hardcastle and Rice. Two prominent Australian women lawn tennis players—Miss May Hardcastle, of Queensland, and Miss Thelma Rice, of New South Wales —arrived by the Wanganella from Sydney on a holiday, but will mix serious tennis with it. Both Will play in the Wellington championships on December 24 to 28, and later in the New Zealand championships at Christchurch. They are to be the j guests of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. Miss Hardcastle is ranked sixth in Australia and Miss Rice is a New South Wales representative, ranking seventh in that State. Thev will play together in the Women’s Doubles at Christchurch.
