DUNTROON MILITARY COLLEGE
NEW ZEALAND GRADUATE HIGH HONOUR GAINED KING’S MEDAL AND SWORD (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. Lieutenant R. B. Symon, a son of Colonel Symon, former director of artillery, and now retired, graduated at the Royal Military College of Australia. Duntroon, and returned to Wellington by the Wanganella to-day, accompanied by his father and mother, who went across to be present at the graduation ceremony. Symon won the King's Medal and Sword, being the first New Zealander to gain this double award at Duntroon. The sword of honour is for exemplary conduct, and the King’s Medal was awarded for his being the best in his class. They were presented to Lieutenant Symon by the Governor-General of Australia. In an interview. Lieutenant Symon said there were 20 New Zealanders in training at Duntroon, and 10 graduated this year. These 10 were on the Wanganella, and, in addition, nine others were coming home on leave. Of the other graduates, Lieutenant A. J. Young, of Gisborne, won the revolver prize for the best shot in th n smallarms courses.
