THE STRANDED BOMBER

NO ANXIETY FOR CREW RESCUE PARTY SETS OUT DARWIN, Dec. 19. No concern is felt for the safety of the crew of the Vickers-Wellesley bomber. The men were sighted from the air on Saturday, and a rescue partv from the Walcott Inlet Mission Station is expected to reach them to-day after a trek through 54 miles of difficult country. The plane will probably have to be abandoned. More food has been dropped to the crew, and they have plenty of water in nearby creeks. A previous message read: One of the three Vickers-Wellesley bombers which recently broke the world's long-distance record was damaged in a forced landing in mountainous country near Collier Bay, Western Australia, about 130 miles northeast of Derby. Advice has been received that the members of the crew were not hurt. The second Wellesley dropped food, and a ground party has been organised at Derby.
