WINNER OF £2OOO CASUAL ACCEPTANCE OF LUCK "NO PLANS YET" The fact that he had finished the day richer by an unexpected £2OOO did not appear to offer any special cause for excitement to Mi W. D. Choyce, of 48 Selv/yn street, NorthEast Valley, who received word yesterday of his win in the "It's On the Cards " art union. "It isn't millions," he said. " It's no use going mad about it." The firsit news of his good fortune came when a carrier friend called at Shiel's Quarry, where Mr Choyce works, in order to offer congratulations. The lucky winner was less excited than anyone arid when his afternoon's work was completed he went home at the usual time to occupy himself in his garden, his main interest. When a Daily Times reporter called 'in the late afternoon Mr Choyce was found tending his prize dahlias', of which he is extremely proud. In response to the natural question as to what purpose he proposed to put the £2OOO, Mr Choyce scuffled the earth between the rows reflectively and then stated that he had nothing in particular in view as yet. "I think the bank can take care of it until the New Year," he said, "and then, perhaps, I'll have some plans. I'll be able to help one or two people that I have always wanted to help, and to do a few little ' good deeds' which I have had in mind for some time." * Mr Choyce had a win in a previous art union, a ticket he held about four years ago proving to be worth £5. "I got far more of a 'thrill' out of winning that first •fiver' than I did to-day," he said. " I nearly missed this art union. I had decided not to bother about a ticket, but something about the advertisement caught my attention and I bought my ticket the day before the entries were closed." In answer to a request for a photograph of himself, Mr Chbyce stated that publicity' was "not in his line." He laughingly promised that six photographs could be taken of him when " £ 12,000 comes my way. I received my tickets for a bigger-, 'sweep' this morning and I'm hoping that my luck will hold. I can certainly not complain about my good fortune so far, as I am 53 years of age and have been in steady employment for 40 years." Mrs Choyce and the younger of their two children appeared to be little more impressed than the " head of the house" at the unexpected stroke of luck. Evidently the nom-de-plume, "Last Hope," under which the ticket was bought was

not meant to be taken literally, for Mr Choyce says that he has no intentions of giving up his usual " investment " in a ticket for any current art union.
