CHILDREN'S TREAT

RETURNED SOLDIERS . ENTERTAIN Upwards of 160 children of deceased soldiers and those in hospital were entertained by the Dunedin Returned Soldiers' Association at the annual Christmas treat in First Church grounds on Saturday afternoon. In excellent weather conditions the treat, the twelfth since the inauguration of this annual affair, proved one of the most successful ever held. The president of the association, Mr N. R. Wilson, briefly extended a welcome to the children and their parents, and there then appeared, to the general delight, Father Christmas himself, a well-known member of the executive of the association having undertaken thL part While the parents were entertained at afternoon tea in Burns Hall, the children took part in games and races outside, and the numerous gifts of books and toys, the cost df which is subscribed by members of the association, were distributed. Ice creams, sweets and soft drinks, a barrel of the last having been given for the occasion by Thomsons, Ltd., were deservedly popular.
