Intermittent rain squalls were experienced in Auckland on Saturday, and a strong breeze blew from the north-west in the morning and from the south-west in the afternoon. A fresh south-west wind blew to-day, which was cloudy but fine. The maximum temperature was 72 degrees, and the barometer at 4 p.m. registered 29 95in WELLINGTON, Dec. 18. The wind turned to the south-west early on Saturday morning. Intermittent rain followed, but after a sharo shower toward mid-day it cleared, and the evening was fine. This morning, the wind turned to the north-west and became strong and squally, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. The sky was overcast and threatening, but conditions improved in the afternoon. The minimum temperature last night was 45.1 degrees, and the maximum to-day 59.0 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 29.601 in. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 18. The weather was fine yesterday, with a light southerly wind. The maximum temperature was 64 degrees. This morning was overcast, with a light south-westerly wind. Shortly after noon the wind changed to southwest, with a heavy but short shower of rain and some thunder. The rest of the afternoon was brilliantly fine and sunny. The maximum temperature was 67 degrees.
